Our Story

It started at the Olive Tree Cafe in Greenwich Village in July 2022. A few friends gathered over hummus and truffle fries over a shared passion for writing. They’d meet up every week to share writing ambitions, run creative exercises, and brainstorm ideas.

Slowly, word started to spread and the community began to grow. The name, Olive Tree Writing Club, is an homage to the original meeting spot. A year and a half later, we’ve hosted over 60+ meetups with 300+ authors, bloggers, poets, and writers from all backgrounds in NYC.

Our Beliefs

  1. Writing attracts interesting people and makes people interesting. Writing not only attracts curious, clear-thinking, and open-minded people but also transforms them into more curious, logical, and open-minded people.

  2. Due to the fast-paced and transient nature of NYC, the default social event tends to be superficial. OTWC stands out by gathering inherently interesting writers, offering a consistent space for genuine connections in an environment that encourages vulnerability.

  3. Writing isn’t a solitary pursuit. Being a part of a scene is essential for talented writers to thrive through the flow of ideas, the exchange of tools and techniques, and the network effects of success.

  4. Writing is the basis of the creative process. In every domain, the most accomplished individuals are essentially writers: directors craft screenplays, musicians pen poems, and entrepreneurs draft business plans. This is because writing is not just a means of communicating ideas; it’s the catalyst for generating them.
